Dormez Vous quilts are beautiful to look at but they are also meant to be used. Of course you will want to sleep under your quilt, but why not let the kids build a camp with one, have a picnic on it, or cosy up in front of the television.
In time one of our quilts will become a keepsake of cherished memories. Our hope is that these functional works of art will become beloved family treasures for generations to come. The following care instructions will ensure a long and lasting life for your quilt.
Most quilt lovers prefer to hand or machine wash their quilts rather than have them dry cleaned as washing produces a better finish. As all of our standard quilts are made from 100% pure pre-washed cotton it is advised that you do the same. If your quilt is a special order that includes more delicate fabrics, such as silk or satin, then it might require dry cleaning. In this case we will give special care instructions when your quilt is delivered.
It is generally fine to wash your quilt in a home washing machine, though for a very large quilt you may need a commercial size machine. To wash a quilt, use cold water and a mild detergent free of bleaching agents and brighteners. Run the machine on a short gentle cycle.
Try to support the quilt's weight when drying as wet quilts can be very heavy and can put strain on the seams. It is perfectly OK to partially dry a quilt in a tumble dryer provided there is enough room for the quilt to tumble around in the drum, but it is better to lay a quilt out flat on a table or rack or even spread it out on the grass if it is a sunny day.
Unless your quilt is particularly soiled, it should not be necessary to wash it more than once a year. Over washing a quilt unnecessarily will shorten its life. Airing in the open will definitely be beneficial.
